Visiting Kurosuke’s House at Totoro’s Forest (トトロの森)

Hi everyone!

Yesterday, Yumi-san (a.k.a. my fairy godmother here in Japan haha) and I went on a mini hiking trip at Tokorozawa, Saitama! It’s amazing how there are SOOO many things to do, explore and discover here in Saitama Prefecture!

Been wanting to hike ever since my Poppy trip to Chichibu and coincidentally, Yumi nee-san wanted to visit Kurosuke’s house. I think that I did read about this news before (maybe from rocketnews JP? lol haha) and I also thought of visiting Totoro and Kurosuke.. but I had forgotten about it. Many thanks to Yumi nee-san for inviting me and for arranging everything! Her adventurous spirit and youthful energy are really inspiring and contagious.

Anywaaay, let’s get started! Here are the highlights of the trip! ^^

Luckily, for a Saturday, it wasn’t too crowded!

Seeing greens and trees just makes me feel more alive!

Look how lush the trees are! They look like broccoli (and Yumi-san thinks so as well haha)~

Many years ago, the local community started a fund for the preservation of the forests in Sayama Hills / Tokorozawa, Saitama. They called it “Totoro Fund / Totoro no Furasato Foundation”. Tourists are welcome to stay at Kurosuke’s house and you can donate by purchasing the special edition Totoro fund merch / or you can just leave any amount in their donation boxes. Up to this day, because of the pooled money, the organization has bought and acquired enough land to sustain and preserve the forests.

My Pink Shibazakura Dream in Chichibu, Saitama

Hi friends! 🙂

I’m so inspired to blog, create, and share these days and here I am once again taking full advantage of this unusual state of mine. Haha! Is this the effect of facebook detox?!

(FYI, I have deactivated my personal FB and I still have no plans to go back yet haha)..

Let me share these photographs I took when I went on a journey to Chichibu during the end of April. It was certainly a dream come true for a flower enthusiast like me! 🙂 If you plan to go to Japan (Kanto region), a trip to Saitama prefecture is highly recommended! I originally wanted to go to Mt. Fuji to see the Shibazakura (pink moss) but I didn’t want to risk and get disappointed by the disappearing Fuji-san. Also, I’ve been so interested in exploring Saitama! So many trees, parks, and wonders of nature here!

I didn’t expect that I would be welcomed by cherry blossoms that day.

The sakura flowers had already fallen in our area during the same time.. so imagine my surprise! I was so delighted!

A Minute of Escape

This was captured yesterday afternoon, when I was riding the Saikyo line from Shinjuku to Akabane.

I like spontaneous moments like this. I wasn’t expecting anything special to happen that day, until this train came. It’s very rare for me to catch commuter trains in Tokyo with a different-style of  seating arrangement. It was like riding an old romantic train (one of my Europe travel dreams) with strangers beside you.. but only in modern-time Japan setting. : )

I did not edit the colors nor added a background music. For moments like this, you just have to share it as it is. Raw and beautiful.

I have actually witnessed the most beautiful sunrise (before this) while inside the same line (Saikyo) to Shinjuku in another random day. Couldn’t bother and look for my phone to take a video of it. I was too engrossed at that scenario happening in front of me.

Indeed, there is something special about each day. : )
